Good news :
Tobacco use by Minnesota youth continues to decline dramatically, according to Minnesota Youth Tobacco Survey
Smoking dropped by 43 percent among middle-school students and 31 percent among high-school students between 2000 and 2005; all tobacco use dropped by 25 percent and 24 percent respectively

Far fewer young Minnesotans use tobacco today compared to five years ago, according to the Minnesota Department of Health’s Youth Tobacco Survey, conducted in 2000, 2002 and 2005

I believe this is directly due to Target Market, created by Governor Jesse Ventura. He announced the creation of TM at Apollo High School in Saint Cloud in 2000 which I attended at the time. Unfortunately the program was scrapped. The money MPAAT gained for the state from its lawsuits was lost due to Governor Tim Pawlenty's lack of vision. Perhaps we can learn from this situation - that preventing the use of these legal substances can benefit the young people of our state and world.
